According to a 3 month outlook released by the WSI, a division of The Weather Company, it appears that winter will end on a much warmer note than it started on for most of the United States. February may still hold on to some of the chill we have been experiencing, and the back half of February has mixed evidence, pointing out the issues with long-range forecasting. Still, it is expected that the East will experience some backlash weather, and it will be colder than normal in some of the Southern states.
“Three variables, in addition to El Niño, could play an important role the rest of the winter and early spring, including the North Atlantic Oscillation, the Arctic Oscillation and the Madden-Julian Oscillation. These features can be difficult to forecast more than a few weeks in advance.”
